Berry First Birthday: A Sweet and Simple First Birthday Party Idea 🍓

When we started thinking about our daughter’s first birthday party, we decided to keep things simple, just a lunch with our extended family to celebrate her first year. But of course, as a DIY-loving mama, I couldn’t resist adding a few special touches to make the day feel extra memorable.

Since she absolutely loves strawberries (and really, all berries), the theme came naturally: "Berry First Birthday!" From there, the creative wheels started turning, and I had so much fun putting together little details that made the day feel sweet and special. From DIY decorations to a dessert table filled with sweets, here’s how we celebrated our little one’s special day.

Berry First Birthday Decorations: DIY and Cricut Party Ideas

To set the theme, I started with a hand-painted birthday banner featuring strawberries and white daisies—simple, cheerful, and the perfect backdrop for our little celebration.

Then, I put my Cricut machine to work to create:

  • Face confetti (because who doesn’t love tiny versions of a baby’s adorable face?!)

  • A highchair banner to mark her special seat

  • Vinyl name for the “One Year Of” photo display

From my laser shop days, I still had a few treasures that fit perfectly with the theme:

  • A cake topper featuring acrylic daisy accents

  • A custom "One Year Of" milestone photo display, showcasing all her monthly baby photos (seeing those pictures together was such a reminder of how much she’s grown in just one year)!

These DIY first birthday decorations made our small celebration feel extra special while keeping it budget-friendly!

First Birthday Dessert Table: Brazilian Sweets & More

No Brazilian celebration is complete without docinhos—Brazilian sweets! I made a batch and put them in cute little cups, adding a touch of homemade love to the dessert table.

For the cake, we ordered our absolute favorite: Whole Foods’ Berry Chantilly Cake—light, fluffy, and filled with fresh berries! I also attempted homemade macarons (not my greatest success, but A+ for effort 😂).

A special shoutout to my childhood best friend’s mom, a party planner and dessert expert, who brought personalized strawberry theme sweets and put together a balloon garland that tied everything together perfectly. It was the chef’s kiss to our simple but sweet setup!

A Sweet Celebration for Our Rainbow Baby

Looking back, I can’t even imagine what this party would’ve turned into if I had decided to go all out instead of keeping it low-key. But honestly? This simple first birthday party was perfect for us. We got to celebrate our little miracle rainbow baby in the best way, surrounded by family, good food, and so much love.

She has brought so much joy, sass, and laughter into our lives this past year, and celebrating her “Berry First Birthday” was the sweetest way to honor her first trip around the sun. We can’t wait to keep watching her grow and see the amazing person she’s becoming!

For any parents looking for first birthday themes, DIY birthday decorations, or simple first birthday ideas, I hope this inspires you! Here’s to many more birthdays filled with love, laughter, and just the right amount of strawberries! 🍓💖
