DIY Custom Face Confetti Tutorial: Easy Cricut and Hand-Cut Guide
For my daughter's "Berry First Birthday" party, I wanted to add a fun and personalized touch to the decorations. One of my favorite DIY details was making custom face confetti featuring her adorable face with a tiny party hat! This was such a hit with guests, and it's an easy, budget-friendly way to add a special touch to any celebration. Plus, you can make them with or without a Cricut machine! Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how you can create your own.
Supplies Needed:
A cute picture of the birthday star
Canva (or any photo editing software)
Party hat graphic (Canva has great options!)
Printer
Cardstock (I used white, but you can use any color)
Scissors OR Cricut cutting machine
Step 1: Create the Design in Canva
Upload a clear, close-up photo of your child into Canva.
Add a party hat graphic and adjust the colors to match your theme (I used red, pink, and white). You can also add a number corresponding with how old they’ll be.
Resize the party hat to fit naturally on their head.
Shrink the entire image to about 1x1.5 inches for confetti. I also made a larger 4x6-inch version for the door and gate signs so guests knew where to go.
Once you're happy with the design, it's time to choose your cutting method!
Step 2: Printing and Hand Cutting (No Cricut Required)
Group the party hat and face together in Canva.
Multiply and fit as many images as possible onto an 8.5x11-inch sheet of paper.
Press “share” on the top right corner, then “download” and select “PDF Print” option and select the purple “download” button again.
Pull up your downloaded file, load cardstock into your printer and print your sheet.
Cut out each face carefully using scissors.
Tip: If you want sturdier confetti, print on sticker paper and stick them onto glitter cardstock before cutting!
Step 3: Using a Cricut Machine (For a Faster, Precise Cut)
Save your Canva file as a .png file with a transparent background.
Open Cricut Design Space and start a new project.
Upload the image and crop or adjust anything if needed.
Select "Flat Graphic" and upload it into your project.
Resize the image to your desired size (mine was 1x1.5 inches for confetti).
Click on the operation drop-down menu and make sure "Print Then Cut" is selected.
Click "Make" and in the new window, adjust the project copies to fill the page (I fit 24 per sheet).
Click print, and be sure to select "Add Bleed" so there’s no white border when cutting.
Once printed, place the cardstock onto your Cricut mat and follow the prompts to cut out your face confetti!
Step 4: Creative Ways to Use Custom Face Confetti at Your Party
Now that you have your personalized face confetti, it's time to use them! Here are some fun ways to incorporate them into your party:
Sprinkle them on tables as fun confetti decorations.
Attach to toothpicks to use as cupcake toppers or skewers for cake toppers.
Hole punch them and string them together for a custom banner.
Stick them onto favor bags or invitations for an extra-personal touch.
I’ve done this for my older kiddo in the past, and it’s such a sweet way to celebrate them. Guests always love the confetti, and they add such a fun, personalized detail to the party. I love saving some and looking back to see how much they’ve grown over the years.
I hope this tutorial helps you create your own custom face confetti for your next celebration! Let me know if you try it—I’d love to see how you use them! 🎉
