Color Drenching: How We Transformed Our Bedroom into a Moody Blue Living Room
When we first bought our home, we never imagined that our primary bedroom would eventually become our main living space. But after a few years of barely using the room and feeling like our living room was too small for our growing family and gatherings, we made the bold decision to switch things up. We moved our bedroom to a different space in the house and transformed what was once our primary suite into a cozy, intimate living room.
And we didn’t stop there—we went all in with color drenching! We painted the walls, ceiling, trim, and even the doors in Sherwin Williams’ NAVAL, a deep, rich navy that instantly set the tone for the space.
Now, three months later, we couldn’t be happier with our decision. The room feels like a moody, cinematic retreat—almost like our own private movie theater. The depth of the color makes the space feel both cozy and dramatic, perfect for unwinding at the end of the day or hosting friends in a space that feels separate from the rest of the house. Being able to close the door and have a dedicated lounge area has been such a game-changer for us.
This experiment in reimagining our home’s layout reminded us that sometimes, function should dictate design—not the other way around. Just because a room is labeled a certain way on a floor plan doesn’t mean it has to stay that way! By embracing a bold color and repurposing a space to fit our needs, we’ve created a home that truly works for us.
Would you ever consider color drenching a room in your home?
